FAQs

Is it exactly 3 weeks?

Our goal is to wrap within 3 weeks of our official kick-off. Specific timing shifts depending on: whether your product or prototype is ready to test; if we’re recruiting from a paid pool or existing customers; volume of recruiting field; timeliness of protocol approval; and scheduling for the final readout.

What kind of testing do you do?

  • Usability: Unmoderated evaluation of a product’s usability against predefined criteria or industry standards. Best for: specific executions of web and product design or marketing; tactically evaluating what people actually do; research on tight timelines and budgets.
  • 1-1 interviews: Moderated, one-on-one conversations with participants to gather in-depth insights, background, and opinions about a topic. Best for: learning more about your audience and what they care about; factors outside of the immediate experience that impact their usage of your product; getting at the “why” behind certain behaviors.
  • Contextual Inquiry: Observing a user interacting with a product in real-time while asking questions and gaining insight as they go. Best for: validating what users say they do vs what they do; gathering a brief amount of background information; uncovering the “why” behind specific product interactions; prototype/product at an early phase that requires guidance.

What do we need to do?

We’re experts in research methods, and you’re the subject matter expert of your product. We’ll guide this process and rely on your input to:

  • Determine specific questions or functions to test in order to achieve your research goals
  • Testing stimuli (the product or prototype to use during testing)
  • Approval on the protocol
  • Alignment on recruitment parameters
  • Recruiting, depending on type of user/project scope

We’ll take care of the rest.

What’s the pricing?

Our Insight Sprint is a flat fee for our service. OOP expenses to recruit and moderate tests are billed separately. These are determined by:

  • Level of expertise/scarcity of the user
  • Length and format of the test
  • Number of participants tested

How does recruiting work?

There are a few ways we can approach recruiting, depending on target audience, budget, timing, and goal of the research. For example, if testing an ecommerce site for typical household goods, we can easily recruit from a paid pool. However, if your research goal is targeted on users who have engaged with your product for 3+ months, we’ll work with you to recruit from your existing customers. We’ll use our initial consult call to determine which is the right fit for you.

Do you recommend solutions?

Our role in the Insights Sprint is to report on observable behavior, results, and hypotheses about why this is the situation — we stop short of solutioning. However, we can be engaged for additional sprints to brainstorm or design potential solutions uncovered in research.
